All Music Television Network bows its first program produced by Emmy-winning veteran Frederick Smith Jr. and hosted by celebrated jazz personality LeRoy Downs!
LOS ANGELES – Showcasing today’s biggest and brightest stars blending jazz, blues, hip-hop, funk and soul, “The Jazz Creative,” a new weekly 30-minute music television series, will begin airing on September 20, today announced three-time Emmy Award-winning producer Frederick Smith Jr., founder and president of All Music Television Network. Over the next three months, the show will be available online and to 25 television stations reaching 20+ million households in many of the top 150 DMAs, including New York and Los Angeles.
Hosted by Los Angeles radio personality LeRoy Downs, the Jazzcat, “The Jazz Creative” is expertly curated and produced with exclusive interviews and intimate performances by emerging and established artists. “With hot young musicians such as Gerald Clayton, Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper and Terrace Martin leading the way, we believe ‘The Jazz Creative’ will be the start of a new era for this most resilient and beloved style of music,” said Smith. “Jazz is America’s original art form and continues to reflect our diverse culture.”
GRAMMY®-nominated pianist Gerald Clayton and guitarist Matthew Stevens are profiled in the first show, with saxophone sensation Kamasi Washington, trumpeter Marquis Hill, pianist Kris Bowers and 2015 Monterey Jazz Festival artists and highlights slated for future episodes.
“The Jazz Creative” will air after “Saturday Night Live” (NBC) and “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (CBS) in select markets. The series will also be available by subscription online at allmusictelevision.net and on digital platforms including Roku, Apple TV and other OTT devices and services. Downs, a Los Angeles jazz radio program, will also debut the online jazz radio station “Sounds and Colors Radio” in November.
“LeRoy Downs is passionate about jazz and brings the experience of a lifetime of listening,” said 2015 NEA Jazz Master Charles Lloyd.
“LeRoy Downs has brought his passion and comprehensive knowledge of Jazz to American radio audiences for years, and now with “Live From the Blue Whale”, television audiences can experience first-hand this vital art form in an intimate ‘workshop’ setting in Downtown LA’s hippest listening room. All Music Television in 2015!
by jazzcat on Jan.19, 2015, under Events, Jazzcat Hosting, Television
Hello Everyone,
Here we are at the beginning of a brand New Year with so much beauty ahead of us. Everyone has resolutions, new ideas, new projects, new ways of thinking and being and the real question is, “What are we going to do to contribute” to our planet? Well, All Music Television and Sonos Studios has gotten off to a great start with the first iteration of the All Music Television Network!
Today we conducted interviews with some monsters in the music who are carving out paths of honesty, beauty and grace with their music and their accomplishments. Sonos Studio is onboard with the concept for a new television network. 2014 Thelonious Monk Trumpet Competition winner Marquis Hill, pianist Kris Bowers and rapper Cash L3wis all came by the studio to share their knowledge, wisdom and stories about the music.
Right off a direct flight from Philly and straight to the studio, Los Angeles’ very own Kamasi Washington joined host LeRoy Downs to talk about the new album, playing on the road with Chaka Khan and Harvey Mason and the life of a creative musician!
The brainchild of television producer Fredrick Smith is to create a television network where people can come and experience all kinds of music.
Not one that repeats and concentrates on the same popular music that you always hear, but one where young people are speaking, creating, singing and playing music that moves a new generation!
Patricia Cage is the other host and she spent some great time getting to know Kris Bowers and the impetus behind the the multifaceted pianist. Coming soon to a television near you! All Music Television! We will keep you posted!!!

Screening of "Icons Among Us" on Dec 7th at the Barnsdall Gallery!
by jazzcat on Nov.24, 2010, under Events, News, Television

“Icons Among Us” is one of the most preeminent jazz documentaries of our times!
This Film Screens in Los Angeles on
Dec 7th at 7pm
The
Barnsdall Arts Gallery
Jazz is
undergoing changes of monumental magnitude and importance. Icons
Among Us: jazz in the present
tense, is a documentary film series that captures the metamorphosis of jazz
by showcasing the words, music, and spirit of the artists that are paving the
way for an unprecedented musical revolution.
Through
interviews and live performance footage, we explore the thoughts and lives of
the musicians spearheading today's jazz front lines. This diverse group of musicians, who have committed their
lives to their art, is being missed out on by mainstream media and popular
culture. They continue to record,
play live jazz, and exist in a world that has been distracted from their
brilliance.
Never before has
jazz music meant so many different things to so many different people. From hip-hop to bee-bop, from jam-band
to free-form, the music continues to grow and shape itself in ways as varied as
the musicians who play it. Icons Among Us is not a historical look
at what has been called “America's Music,” but rather a timely,
vibrant trip through the clubs, festivals, international scene, and lives of
the new generation of jazz musicians.
Jazz is
pulsing. In fact, its heart beats
more soundly than ever. Our film
will realign deep pockets of jazz listeners and introduce new audiences to a
varsity level playfield in music.
We wish to show jazz as it is today: an art form that is alive, is
vivacious and is constantly exchanging breath with other genres.
The filmmakers
believe that Icons Among Us is
hitting its stride at a critical moment in music history. Icons’
unique appeal will engage a largely untapped and growing audience of both the
culturally creative and the multi-generational music lovers. The market is ripe, and the musicians
are ready.
Jazz, like the
world we live in, is at a crossroads: continue to look in the rearview mirror,
ponder whether to turn left or right, or move ahead into uncharted territory by
way of innovation and passion. Icons Among Us tackles issues
head-on. It allows the musicians
to comment on their art form in a truly candid manor, and also allows the
viewer an opportunity to realize that the future of jazz is now.
