DEEDS NOT WORDS -THE LIFE AND WORK OF MAX ROACH AND
ABBEY LINCOLN is an exhibition of the archives, art and interviews on
Max Roach, Abbey Lincoln and their collaboration not only
artistically, but in the struggle for civil and human rights and
equality.
“The Jazzcat” LeRoy Downs broadcasted live from
The William Grant Still Art Center on
KTTERadio.com
The exhibition which runs through June 16 is a collection of
Albums, Articles and Art on the two musical icons Max and Abbey.
DEEDS NOT WORDS -The Life and Work of Max Roach and Abbey Lincoln is
in conjunction with Music LA African American Heritage Music Education
Program, focusing on teaching music through the music of Max Roach and
Abbey Lincoln.
The exhibit will also feature several events including opening reception , M’Boom Tribute to Max Roach concert, panel discussion and Music LA – Max Roach and Abbey Lincoln Workshops and Finale Concert.
Opening reception is the first of our concert series and kicks off our DEEDS NOT WORDS programming with
Marcus L. Miller’s Freedom Jazz Movement featuring
Kamasi Washington, Miles Mosley,
Robert Pierce and many special and surprise guests.
DEEDS NOT WORDS -THE LIFE AND WORK OF MAX ROACH AND ABBEY LINCOLN is not only a look into the creative and artistic careers of Max Roach and Abbey Lincoln, but also an examination of the artists as intellectuals and active participants in social change. We examine through archive, how Max and Abbey’s art and direct action influenced a movement.

My apologies for the Abbey Lincoln broadcast not starting at 12pm as promised this afternoon. There was some technical difficulties in the broadcast. It did play around 1pm and we went live around 3pm. Once again, please accept my apologies. You know I appreciate you as a listener and lover of this music.
Yours truly,
LeRoy Downs
